gas dripping from pipes

it's a 2002 the bike sat for 3 years. It started fine then would sputter out then stall now it wont start and gas is leaking from the pipes i'm guessing something is stuck open any suggestions. Thanks dave

Very likely that your Fuel Pressure Regulator has failed, sitting that long the gas probably rotted the diaphragm inside.

Lift your tank, pull the small vac hose off your FPR, then turn the key on to get the pump to prime, and watch for leaking gas from the nipple. Any signs of gas there means you need a new FPR.

thanks for the tip. the fuel pump primes no problem. i cannot find this part do you know where i can get and price.
fuel pressure regulator. Bout 40 bucks

JD, I think you mean Fuel Pressure Regulator?
I'm starting to wonder if the Alzheimers is takin' a grip.

Yes indeed: fuel pressure regulator.
Correction to be made to original post.

The fpr is located right behind airbox, on the fuel rail feeding the throttlebodies.

thanks again. installed regulator and leaking stopped. went for a short spin and made it home with no issues. looking forward to putting some new gas in 94 octane up the street.

you guys nailed it thanks.

on an install note. the larger nipple will be the tube where the gas pours out from. the threaded nut and smaller tube did not flow gas

From what I've read, higher octane doesn't = better. Just FYI to consider saving your money.

the sticker on my tank says use 92 or higher. the manual for my car says use 92 or higher. higher octane means a more consistent explosion in the chamber over lower octane.
I would agree if I'm just doing highway. octane requirements dictate how highly tuned the manufacturer can make an engine. if I don't use it in my car the computer retards the timing

If you can find gasoline without ethanol in it, it is much better at any octane. IMO....(Lowest being 87)

I have a CO-OP in the town I live in and it sells the ethanol free stuff. My lawn equipment sure likes it a lot better too.
