small amount of smoke coming out from under the tank

Started the bike this morning, planning to ride it in to work but had to take the SV instead. Pushed the RC out of the shed up onto the front porch and I realized that smoke was coming up from under the tank. It wasn't a cloud of constant smoke but it was kind of a small rolling smoke coming out through the underline of the gas tank. I've had a small leak in the tank 10K miles ago but welded that up and no gas is leaking anywhere. The only thing I can think of is maybe the head gasket has a leak but I'm not sure. Any ideas are welcomed but I will be digging into this later after work to find the culpreit. As always, thanks for al lthe help guys.

Ok, so it doesn't take much to boggle my mind, but you 'pushed' the bike out and there was smoke/steam present without the bike running? Or it was runnin gand then you pushed it onto the porch? Not running there is really something whacko, but if it was running then there is still a fluid drip onto a hot part or a gasket leak or something. Get into it asap and find out!

Duct tape can't fix stupid...but it sure helps muffle the sound

You can pull the tail and lift the tank while it is running to take a look. Where on the tank was it coming from? Front, back, left, right?

LOL, started it and pushed it out to the porch from my shed.

It didn't stink at all like plastic and if it's leaking gas I'm not riding it.....that's why I have my little twin (SV) for days like these. I will look into it tonight and post back what it is.

That sounds amazing!!! When the high is 43 deg here, I have to get out and ride while it's warm!!

b.miller123 it was coming from under the left side and really wasn't coming from the rear, that's where i had my tab crack a while back on the gas tank and that's what i was worried about but it looked good to me. I'll be taking it apart tonight........................which I'll then replace my clutch plates and coat my headers with industrial aerosol spray paint.

I took the bike a part and lifted the tank up and let her run to about 165 deg but nothing was coming from anywhere on the engine. So, from what i can see i have a very very small leak at the same tab i welded up 1 1/2 years ago on the gas tank which prob is where the smoke was coming from. Going to get the new clutch in, coat the pipes, change oil/filter, get new air filters and new plugs for now. Im going to pull the tank off tomm and see how it looks up close and make a decision afterwards because welding it last time was difficult do to the thin metal. Thanks for the input guys and at least its still winter.
