Bike didnt start

I was ridding around today running errands. I stopped a a couple places for about 15 minutes each time. On my third stop, I went into the bank for about 10 minutes and when I was ready to leave the bike wound not start. It turned over but would not start. I almost feel like the power kept reseting, like when your first turn it and the rpm meter goes up and down twice. I thought it might be out of gas, but not the case. I eventually found a hill and got it started that way. I did notice the trip meter had reset. I went to my garage and changed the oil (this was my plan all day) and it started right up after sitting for over an hour.

This is the first time It has done this since I got it. That said I have only had the chance to ride it about 10 times.

Any ideas?

Check your battery connections and the main ground too, make sure the connections are solid.

Electrical is my first guess. Check your battery connections are nice and secure, and clean. It sounds like a loose, main connection...

Thanks guys. I felt like it was electrical too. Mainly because it was turning over, but then dying, and then coming back on. And the trip reset...

Also check the cranking amps and overall condition of your battery. How old is it?

From my experience, battery life for a bike is about 3 years. That's when I replace them, especially after I had one completely die on me. It ran perfect, wasn't having any battery issues...went to start it and not only did it die, wouldn't even take a charge. I don't like surprises...!

So do update. I have been out and about and the bike has stared with no problems on three occasions. I have not looked at the battery yet. Will do so tomorrow.

On a side note. When I changed the oil/filter I put in 4 quarts. I always put the old oil in the spent bottles. I only filled up 3 1/2 quarts of the oil that came out of the bike. Is that normal? I think I am hearing an extra tick when accelerating too?

Thanks

Sounds like your battery is probably tired (especially if you don't know when it was last replaced?). Have you checked the voltage on it or had it bench tested btw ?

Somewhat normal...how much was in your filter, residue in your pan, vent tubes??
