i normally see 180 for a low at highway speed when it is like 80 out to 100 norm i see 200 -230 if i in high rev lowerer speeds though i live in phoenix and am running a switched fan and engine ice. i know these bikes run hot and when doing highway speed they dont like fan on cools better with it off.

i was wondering this too. i had the plugs and all fluids changed a month ago on my '03 (7200 miles) as well as an electronics check-up so i know it's in tip top running shape.

still, my survival skills can't seem to get comfortable with sitting on a piece of machinery running 223 degrees in city traffic. granted, it was 94 degrees in louisville today but damn, is this normal? it'll drop back down to 180-196 on the expressway, lower if i'm riding next to the river where the air is cooler.

i knew it was a hot tempered beast, i just hope it doesn't blow up!

nah shouldnt blow up if it starts flashing at you then you know it is hot and better let it cool off but dont shut bike off just drop your revs down and let air to the radiator either pull over and let it run so coolant is flowing and cooling or just drive with very low revs like bellow 4500 in 6th gear so you doing like 75 80 ish it should cool down then like said before theses bike were made to run hot

yeah, no matter how many experts tell me it's normal it's still disconcerting. but i've accepted it as a fact of life. nothing is better than high revs coming out of a corner on the rc.

can't live without it.

Mine can get up to 229 deg. F in traffic, but quickly cools down as the fans run.
Once rolling, it quickly cools down to around 209 in town.
Once it gets to a decent pace, it'll cool down to 182 or less on the freeway or backroads.
The critical temp is 251, when the display will start blinking.
I think most are aware of the engine temp as it actually shows the temp, rather than a gauge that shows "cold, normal, and hot".
