01 rc engine rebuld prices

I dropped my 01 rc51 at a shop to get it checked out because Im pretty sure I cold seized it. They told me 300 bucks to take the motor out and open it up to see if its a top end issue. My question concerns fair pricing. If it needs a top end rebuild what should I expect to pay...low price to high price. He already mentioned that if it comes to it we should buy higher compression pistons which I agree with. Im just looking for price ranges to expect so I dont get ripped off. He didn't give me estimates but he will give me them when he finds out the problem. Also said of course we need gaskets. Help me out...he wont swap a used motor in because of reliability issues. Thanks for the help. He also said he takes pictures of everything so that hes not ripping people off and for insurance purposes for himself and what not. Thanks for the help.

I've never rebuilt an RC motor but if it's like anything else and the fact that you will not be doing the work yourself my guess it will be over $1000 +...

Give this guy a call.

Engine builds are expensive.

Take a look here

http://www.hordpower.com/index.php?m...roducts_id=380

This will give you a rough idea of pricing for components. Call Hord too, he is usually willing to answer questions too.

If you were closer to Indy, I wouldn't mind helping a bit.

Good Luck

With low mile used motors well under $1,000, it does not make financial sense to rebuilt it back to stock power levels.

2200 would be acceptable...probably the max i would like to go. Yea I agree no reason to make it stock. Any other prices? its either spend the cash and fix it or spend 4500 to 5500 for another bike like a gsxr or r6. I prefer the rc.

Re: 01 rc engine rebuld prices

Put in a new clutch and had the valves done at local shop first. $850 spent total
