cam pulse generator

Is the cam pulse generator basically like a crank position sensor - as far as the info it sends to the ECM?

Yes and it distinguishes firing on front or rear cylinder for the ECM with an asymmetrical firing gap on the rotating part attached to the cam.

Thanks Makis, I was trying to figure out the difference between the cam pulse generator and the ignition pulse generator. Because we use the term pulse generator when we've talked about code 19.

They are both pulse generators.
They read the pulse, that is generated, with the exact same way:

a coil is triggered by the movement of magnetic stream flow inside the iron core it is twisted around of and a low voltage instant current is flowing through that coil which is picked up by the ECU.
So you should name the fault indication by the sensor's name.

Right.
18 is the Cam pulse generator and 19 is the Ignition pulse generator.
I've seen a few code 19 issues discussed here, but I haven't seen any code 18 issues yet. Anyway, both of them are pretty straight forward diagnosis.

It dont make sense to me lol

Sooooo

Short answers welcome
Long answers even more welcome

The more i find out, the less i know :-)

Since it's a 4-stroke engine, the flywheel will make 2 complete rotations per cycle.
As a DOHC system. The cams make one revolution per cycle.
Therefore, the flywheel pulse generators will have two sets of pulses while the cam pulse generator will have one.
Therefore, the ECU will know the crank/piston is at proper timing and using the cam pulse timing to trigger spark firing for each cylinder.

Okay
I think i have it
So they are basically working together to establish correct firing/sequence.
