Question '05 RC51 Bare Motor/Engine in '02 RC51??

Hi I'm new to this forum so please excuse me. I just bought my '02 RC51 and come to find out that its burning oil. The local shop did a leak down and compression test. My bike has 6% leakage and between 80 to 100 psi on both cylinders. They completed these tests multiple times. The shop suggested that I need a valve job but I decided just to buy a used engine.

I came across an add in craigslist for 2005 RC51 bare motor/engine.

Can someone tell me if the '05 bare motor will fit and work with '02 RC51's stock electrical, throttle body, frame etc????

Greatly appreciate your help on this

Engine fits in the 02 frame, but you'll have to upgrade to the bigger throttle boddies. Also I think, not for sure, you might have to use and 05' computer. What do you plan on doing with your old motor? I'm looking for some cases.

They are exactly the same. The throttle bodies are different on the SP1 00-01 the 02-06 models are identical with the exception of some minor changes to fork/shock revalving (not very well documented though).
No need to change anything other than the engine itself, unless one of them is a CA model, which mechanically it should still be the same.
What is the mileage of the old engine? Unless the NICASIL plating is worn scratched it should be an easy rebuild. If the damage came from overheating it is best to inspect the bottom end as well.

I missed your short answer, but like the bike in your avatar. DO you have a larger pic? I have a collection of pics of custom and race RCs, feel free to email it to me.
