PCIIIr Questions

Starting to mess around with the bike but i have never dealt with a PCIII before. It has the PCIIIr already on it, Im going to do the soft rev mod and it now has different slip ons from when it was first set up so I am going to want to change the map. My questions are: do I need a laptop or can I disconnect it and hook it up to my desktop and has anyone downloaded the software from the PC website on a MAC? I downloaded it and its an .exe file so i open it and its just a bunch of crazy characters.

Thanks

The PCIIIr needs to be connected to the bikes' battery.
I doesn't have the external battery connector like the PCIIIUSB does.
You'll also need a serial cable or serial to USB adapter for a connection to a laptop or desktop if a longer cable is available.
The power commander software is for Windows OS.

anybody know if the serial cable required needs to come from dynojet direct, or can I just use any serial cable that fits from the PC to a computer. In other words, can i just pick up a cable from radio shack, or do I need to contact dynojet? TIA!

Hello all, does the PCIII USB get mounted to my bike somehow ? Or is it just for diagnostics and will stay seperated ?

It mounts in the rear tailsection. Power Commander has good directions for installation on their site. I gotta admit, I hate PC's site. It's really clunky and their install software doesn't get along well with Window's Vista. Go to PC's site, explore around, and you'll get most of your questions answered about installation.

The PC takes all the instructions from the bike's ecm, modifies the fuel map, then deliveres the modified information to the bike. It compliments your factory ecm to streamline performance, and to allow you to change fuel maps according to what engine mods or changes you make.

I'm sure there are more benefits i'm missing, that's just been my experience and observations with it.

Good question.
My local shop that dyno'd mine had the serial cable, but I've never connected my own laptop to it.
I just swapped out my PCIIIr for a PCIIIUSB just for the ease of configuration.
I'll be getting it dyno'd once the bike is together.
I see if I can get the pinouts of the serial cable.
