Valve Adjustment

I have a 2001 RC at 30k miles and checking the valve clearance. I have the heads off but I want to verify which valves are intake and which are exhaust. And just to make sure that the two heads are the same setup. I believe the intake valves are forward and the exhaust valves are in the rear of each cylinder. I only base that on the measurements i've taken. My exhaust valves clearance is about .25mm for the rear cylinder. The minimum is .28mm. The intake is within limits for the rear. I think I'll have to take off the right side cooler in order to make sure the index lines are in line with the cylinder head surface before I take measurements. Second question, since I have basically the whole bike taken apart, is there any other maintenance or tweaks I should do while its apart? Other than oil, spark plugs, air filters. Any help would be appreciated.

the manual will be your best friend. Intake is the side your intake to your throttle bodies is on, and exhaust is the side your exhaust comes out.

I have the manual and I followed it step by step but no where in the illustrations or verbiage does it say which valves are which. I don't want to rely on a parts catalog's illustration but it seems from front to back it goes exhaust - intake - intake - exhaust. Is that correct?

It seems that the exhaust valves are the ones leading to the exhaust pipes. Respectively the ones facing the throttle bodies are the intake valves

Correct. The intake valves are on the inside where the airbox and throttle bodies are. The exhaust valves are the outside ones which lead to the exhaust pipes.

The OEM cams and journal caps are also marked for their position.
