sp1 and sp2 motors

I was just wondering what were the major differences were between the two different models? Reason I ask is because I have an sp2 and I have the opportunity to pick up a motor but its off an sp1 and if it requires a bunch of work to swap them then it might not be worth the time.

Thanks for any advise.

Most all of the changes were done with the chassis (forks, swingarm, etc.) and electronics...
Engines are different in the heads(intake ports, exhaust ports, exhaust header(with the D-shape)). Then being the that Honda improved the intake /enlarging the ports- which gave opportunity for the Larger 62mm throttle bodies,(the SP-1 engines has 54mm thottle bodies, and smaller intake ports)..
It would be a good investment if your bottom end(transmission, crankshaft,etc... took a dump) IMHP...

The difference in the motors are SP2 has improved clutch, D shape exhaust ports, improved pistons, 62mm throttle bodys (only bigger throttle bodys, intake port same size) and a sleeve in the swingarm mounting point. The motors will fit either frame. The 54mm throttle bodys of the SP1 are better for the street.

Only major difference is the exhaust ports on the SP2 heads.
Bottom ends are the same.

Just be sure to make note of the markings and stampings on the crank to get the correct combination of crank bearings. You'd have to refer to a service manual to get the right ones.

Many thanks, I am well across the shell bearing issues, I am just struggling to figure out why the different part numbers…
[-D30 verses -000 ] the two engines share so many common parts. The listing in the parts manual and online [I.P.B’s] still do not show that it is an alternate.
I am rebuilding a SP1 engine that came out of the bike from new and the left hand side main is well out of tolerance and a slight uneven wear on the big end because of this I guess.
I have purchased a SP2 crank with very low mileage out of the USA to see if it will fit as I am guessing it will.
Cheers
