Is a little bit of oil inside of the stator crankcase of my 2003 RC51 normal? I bought a new battery a couple months ago and as of the past few days its not getting charged. When the bikes running its only at 12.4V. I figured the stator was probably shot and after checking all the connections for oxidization and what not I decided to pull off the left crank case. There was a little bit of oil inside and to me that doesn't seem right? Do I need to replace the seals or do you think the stator is bad and what about the oil? The bike has 24,xxx miles on it by the way. Thanks for the help in advance!
also, with the crankcase cover off and tied up waiting to see what I need to replace...the bike continues to leak oil from that spot while it sits there on the kickstand...is that normal or a seal problem?
It's normal to have some oil that location.
The oil lubricates the sprag rollers in the starter clutch mounted on the back of the flywheel, and starter gear train.
Plus provides some cooling of the alternator stator coils as well.
The oil drains into the sump.
