Oil filters

Ok so after reading 8 million posts about what year bike needs what filter i want to make sure im tracking the right info. Me and my father were talking about filters this weekend. He has a 00 model and was told that he could only use the blue filters. So when he found out that they were no longer making the blues he bought 30 of them. From what i have been reading the black filter is an updated version capable of being used on any yr model. I called a local honda shop and the service manager proceeded to tell me that "the rc51 is identical from 2000 to 2009, they didnt change a thing". Instead of getting pissed and arguing that this guy is a honda service manager and doesnt know jack, i just hung up.
What's the deal? I have a blue filter if i can use it on my 01.

I went thru all this a couple years ago. From what I understand, the 2000 and 2001 had a little higher oil pressure than the SP2's. The blue filter was made specifically for the SP1 specs, but it wasn't that economical, so Honda determined the more common black filter used on the SP2's, and many other Honda's, was within the spec range for the SP1. So they discontinued the blue filter. I don't know what the exact differences are.
Someone here, maybe Madbuyer, suggested the Honda warranties it's filters against any damage to your engine. Non of the aftermarket filters do that.

Re: Oil filters

Talked with mike at kyleusa and he confirmed that the blue was designed for the sp1 only and the black supersedes the blue one. Thanks guys for the help.

And here I thought they quit making them in 2006.
That manager must know something we don't.

Technically that means the blue ones offer better midrange performance

Oil filters

Toyo Roki makes the OEM filters....if you know Honda like I know Honda, if there is a design change, it's usually equivalent or better....either way 20 engineers had to agree to the change or it just wouldn't happen
