No oil in window!!

Hey guys! Just recently did an oil change and noticed that there is no oil showing in the window where the high or low level gauges are. I tried looking at it with a rear stand, holding the bike straight even and also just on its side stand. I know that the bike takes about 4.1 quarts. So I put just a little shy of that to be safe. Is there any possible reason no oil level is showing through the window? Could it mean that there is some kind of blockage? And also I tried looking at the window with the bike on and off! Please help! Hopefully its nothing to worry about.....right?

Have the bike touching both of it's wheels on the ground on a leveled surface and stand next to the glass. Then start leaning it towards you. When you have leaned the bike at 10-15 deg you should see the oil rising on the glass.

However, the normal thing is after pouring the oil in, to start the engine, let is idle for a couple of minutes, shut it off and let it rest for one minute. Then the oil level should appear on the glass a bit higher than the middle between min and max levels.

It's 4.1 quarts with oil filter change and 3.7 qt without the filter change.

Sometimes the glass has oil residue on it's inner surface and the oil level cannot be detected clearly.

I tried all the thing you have said.with a stand or without. Leaning it towards the right side of the bike as well. I dont think its residue due to the fact the window is quite clear. And I also did the oil change switched out with a new filter, which about 4 quarts should take care of. I tried the k&n hi flo filter which is pretty nice. Anyway theres gotta be something else right? Theres no way that the window could not be operational at all?! Is there a possible way for it to be clogged somewhere?

I haven't used the K&N oil filter so I gotta ask....is it bigger than the OEM?
Does it contain more oil quantity than the stock filter?

Leaning the bike to the right, even if you have 2qt inside the engine, you should see the oil line at some point. Of course in that case you would have to lean it more than 15 deg so a second person's assistance is mandatory.

Another way to go is to drain the oil back out in a scaled canister and make sure it's all there. I know it sounds stupid for a suggestion but I can't think of any other way the oil would go apart from the oil sump.

One possibility: Sometimes new oil is so clear looking that if the level is entirely above the sight glass it can look empty.

But since you've tried several different angles of lean and straight up, this is prob not the case, just thought it was worth a mention.

Put the full 4.1 qts. in the bike. Start it up for a moment. Shut it off, give the bike a couple minutes to drain the oil back into the pan, then look at the sight glass again. I'm betting the oil will be right where you want it.

If for some highly unusual reason the oil went somewhere else, your oil light will let you know if the engine is starved for oil. It may stay on for just a few seconds (no more than 2 or 3 seconds) at your first start-up, then it'll go off. If it doesn't, shut the bike off.

Good point, I've done that myself.

I'm interested in hearing what the culprit is

Reading this thread... Would you members happen to realize that any of our RC-51s NEARLY hold as much engine oil (4.1quarts) as my wife's 2013 Honda Accord V-6 (4.5 qt.) , or my 1995 Acura Integra DB8 (b18C) engine..

I did realize this the first time I changed the oil a few years back...I said to my wife "this damn thing takes more oil than the Fit."
