900rr question

This is one is for all the 900 guys out there.

I am looking to do a 900rr bobber bike, something like this:


I there are two local bikes I think I could use:

And I am wondering what wheels are easily swappable for the front wheel, because I have read that the 17" is preferable to the stock 16" that came on the 900.

Maybe an F3 front wheel like I put on my 919 would work?

Unless you're racing I don't think you'd know there's a 16" rim on there vs a 17".

The 2000,2001,2002 and 2003 models all have 17" wheel at the front.
Last one with 16" wheel was the 1999 Blade

Nevertheless, you can easily fit front wheel from the CBR600RR, CBR1000RR, CBR929, CBR954, CBR600F4i, RC51, and most likely CB1000F, CB600F
You need to check for brake rotor hub to whatever wheel you choose cause after 2000 the center hole of Honda's front brake rotors changed to a larger hole.

The only reason to change to 17" is for the greater choices in race rubber. I have 30,000+ miles on street and probably 3,000+ track miles on the 1996 CBR900RR and it does handle different but I was able to get the same lap times with both wheel types.

So if it's a street bike, leave it.
If it's a race bike, only do it if needed to get the race rubber you want.

I'm about to put up a $600 package for sale, F3 rim, Scotts damper, Erion triple, titanium clip-ons. A complete convert-to-race package for the 96/97 CBR900RR. Well I guess not complete because I'd do a pipe and rearsets and some engine work and put that sucker in the vintage class.

I was getting ready to post...buy a fecking 919

If you choose pre-2000 model brake rotors, you won't find 320mm O.D and probably different offset on those rotors as well

Stating the obvious here: 900RR mentioned in that ad is referred to 1992 up to the 1999 model included Fireblade models.
The 2000 CBR929RR and on won't fit. However it doesn't need to cause they are equipped with OEM 17" front wheel already

What MakisRC51 says is absolutely true, but as the dude who is advising the F3 rim will be a straight replacement, I want to point out that this thread was started by someone looking at modifying a 1995 or 1996 CBR900RR. I was answering based on the 1996 model question. You don't even need different rotors. Just replace the rim moving the rotors over from your 16" rim.

I know that works on the 1996 and 1997 CBR900RR but you'll have to verify for the 1995 model. Sorry, I only looked at your first "I might buy this for the project" Craig's List add and didn't realize you were considering the 1995.

Anyone know if the direct swap applies to the '95? Can the 900 rotors mount up to the F3 rim?
