Yeah, he "decided" after Honda probably dumped a giant pile of cash on him. His contract was solid through 2020 and had said repeatedly that he planned to see to through. Now who gets his seat? My money is on Vinales.
i think honda would be stupid to bring in anyone but a good team mate to their champ. they need another pedrosa. a guy who gets on the podium all the time, and posts a ton of points. they don't need a guy to challenge marc. too much competition internally isn't a good thing.
if crutchlow could stay upright he'd be a decent choice honestly. he regularly posts top 5s with the occasional podium, but isn't at marc's level. i doubt maverick is going to leave yamaha.
My sentiments exactly, Wibbly. Crutchlow shows moments of genius, but does crash way too often! Jack Miller seems to be improving. I guess there is plenty of potential young talent, in the other classes too.
Cal has openly talked about retirement also after next year, wants to be with his family more, and he is in a lot of pain from his last injury. I feel Zarco would be the best choice at this time, but like Mike said he isn't from Spain. I am sure Marc and especially his father are pushing for Alex to get the ride. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.
Lorenzo state’s it was taking days for his back pain to go away after each session in the bike. Sounds like he’s doing the responsible thing and getting out so he can heal. I see him potentially coming back in a year in some capacity. He is 32 though and will gave the age war.
Alex just resigned with VDS so he is locked down, unless HRC flexes and does what they usually do and bend the rules to get him out.
Sucks to see Lorenzo go though. I never liked him after watching “Fastest” when he was compared to Rossi. But i am tired of Marquez more.
Looking like Alex will be going to Repsol, and maybe Zarco to replace him at VDS. Zarco said he would rather go back to Moto 2 then ride a lesser bike like the Avintia Ducati
Might work out if they get along. Who better to learn from, than your older brother who's won the championship, 6 of the last 7 year's? I'm sure Lorenzo didn't want to hear many pointers from Marquez, about how to ride the Honda.
Oh, I'm sure it will start out with older bro mentor but at some point all riders want to be on top and there can only be one, then the garage looks crowded instead of inviting...
I don't think Alex has the same skill that Marc does.
He may make an excellent team mate as his job is to earn points without threatening the #1 guy.
If he can wrap his head around the Honda and get some good finishes he'll be doing exactly what they need him to do. The family ties may keep him from trying any funny business with the #1 as well which is likely for the best.
I'm sure Marc is relieved that Alex will be riding with him and not a reckless guy like Iannone or Zarco
Hear you, let's see what he does with his bro's data...PB just did a good article on what 93 does different...genius on a bike, him and Stoner are unique to me, still don't like Marquez and Stoner was a cry baby who never understood fans...
