Minimum Post Count For Sending PM's

There has always been a minimum post count required for members to send a PM to another member. That has been removed for now. This will be a trial run to see how things go, if you have any issues....PLEASE let me know so that I can keep track of problems, if any.

I'm not sure where I stand on this ... but thanks for being attentive and giving it a try nonetheless!

Worst case scenario is that things go back to the way they were if we suddenly get bogged down with SPAM.

Never know until it is tried, so lets see where this goes...in my humble opinion.

2001 SP1 (sold)
2004 SP2 (properly stored)
2012 Ruckus (stolen)
2015 Grom (under construction)

Weyrauch pronounced (Y Rock)...Rock for short.

How do you guys figure this will increase spam?
The only change being made is new members can PM.
How does that encourage spam?
Spam shows up in the forums, not PM's.

SPAM has been showing up under new member intro's, if somehow under the intro the new members (spammers) write a certain programming code to utilize PM's...they could SPAM members from the directory.

Just my limited theory, not sure have valid or easy it is to write a program to do that.

The required PM post count was due to new "members" who treated the site as a poor mans eBay simply to sell items.
Once the sale was made, it was "hasta la vista baby".
We had a few issues with these sellers, so we tried requiring at least a certain number of posts to separate the dedicated new members from the pump and dump sellers.

The ability to PM doesn't stop a new member posting something for sale though, or am I mistaken?

Makes sense to keep the members safe on transactions, but buying anything used online is a gamble and I'm not sure if a person's post count can guarantee the product.

Two instances recently that come to mind is the Akra exhaust Nobody purchased (not the best product) and RC Devil (good product)...both from new members, but the ability to PM didn't mitigate the risk.

I figured the limiting of PM's would stop the SPAM in the new member section and allow Mods to go through and delete those people.

All just my humble opinion, interesting discussion and like most members I would like to help with site improvements anyway possible.

And on that bombshell, I'm going to get my Lifetime (20yr) membership now.

We've made a ton of progress when it comes to classified deals around here. You guys are much more alert and careful when entering into a transaction. As I said earlier, folks know that if you try to get one over on somebody around here, you will pay.... Doesn't stop it, but the dead weight has dropped a lot.

The post count isn't a very good metric, IMO. Some of us prefer to keep our mouth shut, and use the search function rather than start new threads that have already been addressed multiple times.
