I stated a thread when I first joined, and felt like updating. Still not fully complete, she's getting closer. I think I will plasti-dip some black honda wings on the tank to get a feel for how it looks before a permanent spray. Let me know what you guys think, and maybe she will get entered in this months BOTM. Who knows haha.
You can see the peeling on the clear over the black. Prevented me from sleeping at night.
Thanks to some great how-to guides, there was minimal fuel loss.
All prepped up
Aircraft remover hard at work. Not sure if this was the most effective way of paint removal, but it worked.
Primed (lightly), and wet sanded
base coat applied
A few pictures went missing, but it was more of the same. A few more coats applied, followed by a few clear coats. Aaaand the reinstall
And a little help from a $3 ebay purchase
Its not a perfect paint job, but in my opinion looks way nicer than before. I did the best I could with basically no painting experience, and a very dusty/windy environment. Took a few days for the vapors to leave the garage/my house, but it's basically back to normal. A good respirator is an absolute must. I was always a huge fan of the Repsol setup and loved watching Rossi tear tracks up on his RC211V. Ill throw up some more once I get a basic wing concept down. Let me know what you guys think...but...go easy!
good job mate, matches perfectly, was this a rattlecan job?
Thanks polar, no rattlecans here. I took the fairing to a local paint shop and had them match. Guy said it wouldn't be spot on, but I wasn't going for an award. It was however, a huge learning experience with activators, bases, reducers etc. All in all, not shabby.
