i'm done with lousy stock seats. i've had hit or miss luck with corbins. did some research and found www.diymotorcycleseat.com
which inspired me to try modding my seat myself. and i'm enjoying it very much.
i should have documented the process from the start but it doesn't matter much because the file size limits on this site won't let me post pics anyway. and yes, i am not into computers enough to know how to get around it.
i carefully removed the cover. the staples were easy to remove. then the foam. the foam is glued around the outside edge of the seat. i was careful and got the foam off without damaging it. i wanted to make sure i can go back if this mod doesn't work out.
the next step was foam. i went to the local auto upholstery shop. they sold me some closed cell foam. i think it, or something similar, is what's used in corbin(guessing). using an agle grinder i shaped the foam. i managed to get it to fit to the seat pan pretty well. i also dished out the shape. i'm going for the old time steel tractor seat shape. i'm also making the seat wider. the foam is very easy to work with an ngle grinder.
delays so far:
*burned out my cheap grinder. got a new one.
*unfortunately friday night my finger had a close encounter with the grinder. three stitches later i wanted to get back at it but...
*huge weekend party here at the house on account of the outdoor bon jovi concert across the street
i should be back at it this afternoon.
i have a couple pics that i'll email out if anyone is interested. maybe someone could post them for me?
