"Measure twice, cut once". Learn it, memorize it, DO IT.....becauae i didn't. I have a brand new RK520GXW chain that i cut perfectly down from 120 links to 104 link. It has a rivet style master link, its gold, and un used. In my haste to get up an running, i double checked the amount of links i needed on a couple websites, but i was looking at the SP1 numbers...and i have an SP2 which needs 106 links. 50 bucks shipped and its yours.
does anyone know if i could actually do this? or will it ruin the strength and reliability of the chain? i suppose i could use the original master link, punch out another "inner" link from the usunsed portion of cut chain, and then just get one more masterlink.
So far so good on the bike. i check the rivets and chain daily because i'm paranoid and know that "Murphy's Law" is a reality...but the rivets looks strong, the chain doesn't flex funny and it pulls hard with no huge stretching.
