Black Beauty Lives! Britten V1000

Not too many people get to see a Britten V1000 in pieces, but now you get to see the Britten V1000 stripped down and refurbished to run in the Sound of Thunder race in NZ this year.

One of two Britten V1000's to be ridden by the same riders that rode them 20 years ago.

These bike were so far ahead of their time, it's sick.
These bikes are exquisitely beautiful, utterly functional, and very fast.

The fact that these bikes were virtually 100% handmade in a shop behind John Britten's house adds even more to the legend.

This is my favorite bike!!

Where are they now?

@SubSailor have you seen this video? Guy Martin takes a couple laps and talks a bit about the bike.

Hey, that's not me working on the bike! I shuddered when I saw that too.
When I saw that, I thought "too much talking and not enough attention to the job".
Especially so, since they soon thereafter mentioned the $50,000 crankshaft (at least).

Never said it was you buddy....I apologize for the misunderstanding.
I just wanted to see if anyone else saw that.

My only guess, assuming that he know what he's doing, is that he uses the old screws to make sure the pieces are in place, then take it out and use new one with the torque wrench that we can see him using a few seconds after that scene.

But even in that case he should use a socket or something.
Not this car tire wrenching lever.....

And if you watch closely, sometime before that scene, after installing the pistons, they install the crankshaft and turning that half crankcase over when it looks like he's about to drop the crankshaft through his fingers!!!

It's funny to see this. My side job partner is tearing down bike #7 for maintenance at his day job. He also use to race this bike for Barber. He said he is getting it ready for an event.

I'm sure I can get some. He had text these to me just to rub it in! Also, thanks for sharing the links. By far my favorite bike of all time!

Such an unconventional design, I would have loved to of been a fly on the wall throughout the building and R&D , just to have heard the why's.
