Love my new (to me) RC51!

Hey All,

Just a quick post from someone new to the forum. I just acquired my friend's beloved 2001 this month. Drove to VA to pick it up and brought it to its new home in SF. This motor makes me giggle every time I ride it. 2001 with 4000 miles, stock except for Moriwaki exhaust and PC. I'm sure to have questions later on (like fender eliminators).

Anyway, hi!

Well that would account for about 3,000 of those miles.

Congrats. Will it pass California emissions laws or will it need too?? I love the Moriwakis....nice sound.

Since I live in the Heartland, I don't have those freedom robbing laws like Cali. My toys get to breathe their fullest

Well...motorcycles still require an emissions sticker that CA wants to look at. And no, it doesn't have CA listed on the sticker as it is apparently a 49 state bike. Stupid CA still considers it new since it has under 7500 miles... Trying to find ways around this. If it has more than 7500 miles, I'm good. Either find a motorcycle friendly CHP to sign off or find a speedo...

I'll post pics as soon as I figure out how.

If you bring ANY vehicle from out of state, you're going to have CA restrictions to deal with. In the case of motorcycles, you should always get the VIN and check with CA DMV before buying the bike. I thought Honda made some models, like the 954, that were all 50 state legal. I remember when I was considering an f4i, I learned (but not confirmed) that they were all 50 state legal. Like some models of cars.

But every vehicle that has a motor is subject to CA smog and noise restrictions. Even off-road atv's.

Don't go to DMV until you have all your ducks in a row! If you bring it to DMV with out CA sticker or 7500+ miles it could be flagged in the system and never registered in CA. I work with a guy who had this happen to him on a Oregon GSXR600. He rides with reg. from another bike to this day. Mileage is the deal breaker. Borrow a instrument cluster with over 7500 miles for DMV, then change back.

thor, that's kinda what my plan is to borrow a cluster. I kept thinking the rule was either 7500 or 6 or 7 years...I was wrong and there is no year limitation. I like this state a lot, but damn, they sure make things difficult.

Anyone near the bay area with a cluster around 8k miles i could rent for a few days...?
