Hey gang, close to buying a 2004 with 20k miles. Bike seems in decent shape, no mods other than terrible D&D cans. Any tips or advice on what to look for before plunking down the $$$$ is appreciated.

How much is the asking price?
Finding an RC51 in impeccable shape..
Hard to put a price on.
A lot of guys in here have had theirs over ten years.
Once you get one you'll be in love!
Post pictures if you have/can get them too.
Good luck!!

Yea, they are rare birds but I do see them pop up once in a while in my area. Actually have a line on another one, a 2003 that seems to be in nicer shape. Both guys are firm in the upper $4k range and say they will keep them and ride them if no sale.

I'm gonna search the forums a little tonite but still looking for buying tips. Any known or recurring troubles to look for?

Hey,

Where you located? For a RC in good shape I'd say that price is about right. There is a few threads with what to look for when buying a RC. Use the search function to help.

I'm in Milwaukee Wisconsin. -12F right now and crud on the streets so there won't be any test rides.

Did find some info with the search. Top tips seem to be look for fuel tank leak and fluids condition as a general measure of maintenance, which are true for any bike.

Cool, there's three of us cheeseheads now. I grew up on the eastside of Madison, now I'm in coastal NC. Tonight they are calling for -1F windchill, and they have canceled schools for in the morning Hell I remember going to school in 8 inches of fresh snowfall and -10 temps. I'll never get this place

The R/R and FPR are the troublesome areas that stand out to me.
