Just got My '03 RC51

Hey everyone,
My name is Brett, I just purchased an '03 RC51 with ~19K miles on it this weekend! I live in southern Ohio and am looking forward to learning about all the recommendations for these bikes... Already took it for a 50 mile cruise this weekend! Awesome bike.

Anyone have any kind of maintenance plan they use when they first buy a bike from someone? for example, Changing oil, brake fluid etc? The PO said he changed the oil in the Fall but was thinking about changing, oil, brake fluid etc to just start my own maintenance plan out myself any other suggestions?

Welcome. Oil's cheap so I'd dump it in favour of a good synthetic (I use Amsoil and their filters,) clutch and brake fluid if they're at all dark, fork oil if you want, doubt the P/O did that. Check your chain and sprockets if you haven't already and pull the plastics and have a look around for any tell tail spotting, same with the fork seals. Bike looks great in the photo so if the P/O was honest you should be pretty good to go. I see you've been gifted the woodpecker decal with your purchase. Enjoy the machine, em, nice pipes! look just like mine! Oh yeah, '03s are the fastest.

Welcome to the addiction! I agree with Budoka and Arroz, fresh oil and whatever else you want to do to freshen her up can't hurt. Cheap insurance.

2006 Black Edition SP2
- Stickerless black...giggity
- Assorted stone chips
- Multicolor bug splats, updated weekly
- Custom boot scratches and crash marks on the tailpiece
- Scuffed bar weights & brake lever from asphalt acrobatics
- Road grime under the fender and tail
- Leo Vince exhaust
- Otherwise OEM, not gonna make BOTY any time soon

Change all of the fluids and you will be good as new. Make sure to service the fork oil as well, it seems to be the most neglected behind the rear shock oil.

'03's are the fastest year, you're gonna love this bike.
