Hello all

Hey everyone, I'm Joe. Just came home to a 2000 RC in my garage as an early wedding gift. (Wedding is in Sept) Only has 216 miles on it, so I am not anticipating many issues right now.

I look forward to pinging you all for advise and knowledge!

Welcome. Be sure that you agree with your wife to be that you will never, ever sell this bike, as it will be too sentimental in value being a wedding gift. It's the key to happiness when you need to blow off some cobwebs. Enjoy & have a great wedding!

Stig, I have zero intentions on selling this bike. It is way to "rare" of a find. Still brand new at 15 years old... still in its break in period for crying out loud Not to mention the way I got it... still stunned. BUT, it is now registered and road ready! I am going to take it really easy for the rest of the season since the tires are original. Still in awesome shape, but being 15 years old, not sure how broken down they are.
Thanks all!

Good to hear. I stored & brought back to life a 1990 VFR750 after 15 years of storage a couple of years ago.

One of the things I did before riding was to put on new tires. 15 year old tires are not only much lower technology than today's equivalent sizes, but they will tend to have dried over 15 years and not offer as much grip as original. I see a lot of old car tires in my line of work and we usually change them when they're old.

On a bike this beautiful it's not worth taking the risk. The main thing keeping you from falling over is tire grip, which will be very diminished now. If you have to brake very hard, etc. you may end up going down when you wouldn't otherwise. Don't risk it.

You probably ought to service it thoroughly too, if not already done. The oil in it may still be what was originally poured in in 2000... Brake fluid is macroscopic (absorbs water), etc.
