New to RCs

Greetings. I just picked up an 04 track bike project. It had been lowsided and parked about a year ago. I snatched it up off Craigslist for a fun project and possible replacement to my SV650. This is my first time owning an RC51, but I test rode 2 before I went with the more budget friendly SV. I hope to be testing it out at the track next month.

Welcome to the forum and your project. If you start a build thread, you'll get some input from members that may be quite handy. There's a ton of sound knowledge from some of the top members on this forum.

Stock form is fine, but for the track I'd suggest one thing: suspension.
The RC51 is capable of a lot more with properly sprung Ohlins or other aftermarket forks/internals/springs.
I had my forks rebuilt by Kyle, for about a grand they go thru them, put ohlins valving in, proper springs for your weight, and just a little extra for seals and bushings. Best service anywhere.
I think they might still have some rear Ohlins shocks too.
It really takes the bike to the next level, and the support from Kyle is incredible.
Oh yeah, a 55 series for the rear tire too. Lots of folks like a 190/55, I loved it too, but get even better grip with the newer RS10 in a 200/55. On my second one now.

In case you haven't found it yet, check this out:

Thanks for the Rogue mods link. I hadn't found that one. The bike already has a Penske rear, resprung forks, and Michelin slicks. It should just need an exhaust, fresh fluids, and possibly some fiberglass touch-up to hit the track. I'm a mid pack intermediate trackday rider, so I don't need anything fancy.

johdog is a very knowledgeable and helpful RC guy. His 190/55 tire comment is spot on.
I just had some Dunlop Q3s (190/55 rear) put on the bike and the difference is night and day. Where in Indiana are you?

I think most bikes with a 190 benefit from the 55 profile. My TL was the same way.

I'm in Franklin, about 15 min south of Indy.

New clutch m/c, lever straightened, oil change, fresh water wetter, exhaust install, and successful test ride. A few more things to touch up and hopefully test on track the 18th.

No worries. I have the upper and lower in useable shape. I just left them off for my test ride, since nothing about the bike is legal anyway. Pic of the bike when I picked it up.
