Hi everyone,
New member here. I currently ride a 2008 Honda CBR600RR. I love the bike, have had it for about 3 years now and put 20,000 miles on it. I know i'm going to regret getting rid of it, but I think the time has come for something new.
I never really had the urge for a liter bike before. I rode my friends cbr1000rr and thought it was cool and all but felt that it had way more than I ever really needed. I wished honda would released a cbr750rr because I feel that the 750 would be the perfect blend of power for the street.
Anyway.... I've always wanted an RC51, and I want to own one. These bikes are only getting more valuable so there's really no risk with picking one up.. just gonna be hard to say goodbye to my 600.
I feel like the RC51 down low torque will satisfy me, along with having good top end power. I understand that it has a worse power to weight ratio than my 600, but I'm willing to accept that. I don't really drag knee or anything anyway.
I was wondering if any of you ever went from a 600 to an rc51 and what were some of the pros and cons? When I get my RC It's going to be completely stock and an SP2 and i'm leaving it that way. I modified my 600 so much and I often times wished I left it stock.
Here's a picture of my 600. Sure a cool bike, definitely going to miss her.

The RC DOES NOT have a worse power to weight ratio than a 600.

rc51 is 133 hp and 489 lbs = 3.68lbs/hp
600rr is 118 hp and 420 lbs = 3.56lbs/hp
but who really cares? the 51 sheds 30-40lbs pretty quickly, so it doesn't matter really. the 51 is far from fast, but it doesn't pretend to be, it hasn't stopped it from reaching essentially legend status. it's just funny how many owners are in complete denial about its spec.
OP, my bike previous to my rc51 was an orange 08 600rr (pretty well the same as yours, but with more parts). the only thing i miss about it is the weight and handling. the rc51 is a great handling bike, but the 600rr is a goddamn scalpel. they are NOT the same.
obviously i made the same change, so i would definitely recommend you do the same. the rc51 is a really awesome bike, it's fun to ride, fun to own, and sounds amazing. just make sure you don't buy a ratbagged shitty one, as it seems that the market is saturated with them. too many clowns ruining these bikes so good ones are hard to come by, but i promise you, you'll regret buying a messy one with aftermarket bodywork. if the body isn't clean and oem, don't buy it.

I didn't realize the 600s were putting out quite that much HP these days , but an RC will still eat a 600 , it's got 2/3 more torque. Peak HP isn't everything , neither are numbers on paper , as you know.

On the street of course. But on the track an r6 will crap all over an rc51.
But again, it doesn't matter right? Who cares if it's faster than something else. The 51 sits so low in the speed rankings it's literally not even worth mentioning. Speed is not amongst the numerous merits of the 51, and that's ok. It doesn't need people making excuses for it.

An R6 will crap all over any 1000 on a track that the 1000 can't use all of it's power and top speed.

The type of track where an rc would have an advantage over an r6 would be a stop and go circuit. One where drive from low speeds is required. The rc is a tractor, but that's fine.
And for the last time, who cares? Do you need your bike to be faster than something else? Like is that a requirement of your ownership?
The 51 could have 20 less horsepower than it already does and I'd still love it.

Our good friend Mike is building an r6 right now. I'd be curious to hear his thoughts once that one's done.

As for the RC I mainly am just going to take it for weekend rides, maybe for a few hours. Twisties, around town, and highway. Probably won't ever see the track with it. I have owned my 600 for 3 years and still haven't found my way onto a track either.
Also how are you able to drop 30lbs from the RC?? That's a ton of weight.
