SP2 manual radiator switch mod (easy cheesy way)

This is the short and simple way of installing a manual override for SP2 radiator fans. No pulling the tail, no running 15' of wire. Simple as 1,2,3....4

Parts needed:
1- T-Tap (scotch lock)
1- Spade connector
1- Ring connector
1- Project box
1- On/Off switch
~2' 16G or thicker wire

Step 1: Remove the inner cowl on the right side of the front wheel (right side panel optional)

Step 2: splice a wire into either of the black wires running to your radiator fans (T-Tap and a spade)(RIGHT Radiator used here)

Step 3: connect another wire to a good ground source (I used the radiator to frame bolt near the steering head) (ring connector)

Step 4: connect the 2 wires with a nice switch (not the cheapy ones) ($2.99 RadioShack project box and a 15A heavy duty rocker ($5))

Note there is absolutely no need to pull the seat or the tail to get to the relay as the wire you are looking for is the same black wire that splits and runs to each of your radiator fans.

Not sure why all of the 6+ years of DIYs say to pull the tail, this was less than 2' of wire and took me an honest 15 minutes to walk to the bike, install, and open my "all set" beer.

End Result

Not at all!!! I have read enough forum posts to know pics are a must for any DIY. My beatdown comment was in absolute jest.

Yes, it will still act as intended, just allows the manual override

Just make sure it's the same 2 wire setup and it should be all good. My '90 750 ran about 3/4 or better all the time. Especially in colorado where the air is less dense, we need all the help we can get!
