leaking seal on shifter shaft

does anyone have advice for changing the seal on the shifter shaft for my 01 rc?

The grand scheme of things is that you have to remove the clutch so you can slide out the shaft on the clutch side of the engine. Then remove the seal and install a new one.

I have never changed a shift shaft seal on an RC but I've changed a lot of them and for the most part 95% I've been able to change by just removing the shifter and or linkage, wrapping a little tape over the splines of the shaft, lubing the seal and installing using a long socket or appropriate tool (I've had good luck with different sized PVC pipe).

Actually I'm pretty sure this job would be quite easy but I'm too lazy to go to the garage and check. Hardest part of the whole job is removing the seal without scoring the engine case surface that supports the outer side of the seal.
