annoying red temp light

as soon as i fire up the rc my red temp light comes (when the engine is stone cold) on and stays on throughout the whole trip. its prob just a sensor somewhere, cos the bike still runs like a peach and the actual temp gauge still works fine, held a steady 76degrees on my last journey.

but that little light is irritating me, lil help?

Strange that the indicator light comes on and stays on, while the coolant temp is shown accurately on the instrument panel.
Both are received by the ECU from the ECT (Engine Coolant Temperature) sensor.
The ECU controls all the functions of the instrument panel.
On the surface, it almost appears to be a problem with the ECU or the instrument panel.

I had something funky like that with mine too.
I took apart the large connector in the front left fairing that's down in the pocket to the left of the headlight.
I cleaned the terminals all up and used some dielectric grease and it has not been a problem since.

In the UK service manual, in the SP1 section, it's on page 1-20.
The large connector is not shown, but that's the general area.
A better view of it is in the SP2 section on page 23-18.
It's the 20-pole gray connector where the front wiring harness connects to the front sub-harness.

Yep that's the one Sub.

A good visual is..... The plug is located on the left side between the Rc51 sticker and the turn signal .
If you feel around and find a large wire loom than start moving stuff around and pulling up and it will come up and out. There is enough wire there to get your hands on.
Another way to find it is.... trace the wire back from the dash/instrument cluster till you get a big plug.
Clean that baby up real good and use some electrical grease.
I also used a zip tie to hold the two halves together real tight.

Nope, all you need to do is start digging inside the open area just to the left and down from the left side head light.
