New to me '03 SP2

Hello all,

I just bought a '03 SP2 with 3500 miles on it. I am not super familiar with these bikes, but the engine and transmission both seem to be in excellent shape. However, the previous owner of the bike was not so mechanically inclined, but thought he was. He backed into the front of the bike with a truck and damaged the upper fairing (Frame is OK). He tried to repair the damage himself, but promptly LOST half of the parts to the fairings in the process including the lower, inner "NH1" fairing, turn signals, and most of the fasteners. I am a new member here and this is my first post, so I will only ask two quick questions regarding the info stated above:

1. None of the switches on the left handle bar control work (turn signal, horn, hi/lo beam switch) nor does the brake light work. Will installing and wiring up the two front turn signals complete the circuit and fix this? (I haven't checked the fuse yet, but am aware of it)

2. I live very near Champaign, IL. Is there anyone on here who lives nearby or would be passing through sometime soon who would be willing to take a look at my bike and tell me if anything else important is missing? (There is a shop in town, but I trust the opinions of an enthusiast before those of someone looking to make a profit).

Thanks.

Assuming your rear signals are still hooked up but not working, I don't believe simply hooking up front signals would fix the problem. If you had rears but not fronts and turned on a signal then your rear would flash fast due to the missing load of the front. Are your rears not working either?

No, the rear signals do not flash. They are factory and do light up though.

I think you need a wiring diagram so you can trace the connections.
Do you have a service manual?
Someone here will have a link for a downloadable one. I've misplaced mine...

Keep an eye on eBay. I purchased a new service manual for $30. They are definitely worth it and a must have for doing your own maintenance.

Then yes installing the front signals will fix the issue. The flasher unit is load based and without enough load it will just light up. Similar if you change the turn signals to LED lights you will need to replace the flasher unit with an electronic one.

Found the problem for the horn, flashers, and brake light; it was the fuse. For an unknown reason at this time, if you hit the horn button, it fries the fuse (went through 2 already). Everything else on the circuit works fine.

However, the headlights are still on hi-beams setting and the switch still doesn't work. Any thoughts on that?

Don't waste your money on a physical manual unless you really want it in paper form. You could also print these out if you really want. This link has both service manuals as well as the wiring diagram.

For the switch, not sure if it's the same as the engine killswitch but sometimes all you need to do is take it apart and clean the contacts.
