Radar Detector. Which one and Why.

last week to the RC out for a early morning ride before it got up past the 90's and high humidity. while on my way back on the highway, I got a little crazy and ended up meeting up with a NJ state trooper and he said that I was decelerating at 120mph. Not good. Gave me the ticket and I had to lawyer up for court. The only good thing going for me is that I have not been stopped or ticketed in the past 11yrs. He said me and the prosecutor can work out a deal. Besided that I decided to invest in a radar detector. I have seen everything from Passport, Escort and K40. The K40 is the best but I think it's out of my league. Installer want $2000 cash to purchase one and install. I don't my spending some money on a good one but $2000 is just too much for me to spend on a radar detector. I like to hear any of your suggestion and expiriences with some of the brands that I mention or any other ones that I haven't mention. I am looking to get it installed hard wire to the bike. Need one soon plan on taking a trip to Delaware and need some protection before I venture on the Jersey Turnpike. Thanks for and info.

Cops don't use radar anymore, they use Lidar, or radar.
research it, you'll find the laws regarding lidar detectors and lidar blockers vary from state to state.
But it's not that expensive to get a jamming/detecting, or just detecting system. I saw good systems for around $500.
But, I must say, I have never tried any of them.

Can't speak for CA but that is not true throughout the country. Radar is still the most widely used speed enforcement device. Lidar will not work in inclement weather and you must be stationary to use it.

As far as the question goes check out radardetector.net

I personally feel the Valentine1 is the best detector out there for the money. Understand, a lot of review sites are bias and are paid to post bias results. One that is not is a group of guys who got together from radardetector.net. the site is guysoflidar.com

Ahhhh. I stand corrected.
I think California courts have had it with all the people like me that got a little internet info and then go to court to fight that speeding ticket. From what I learned on the internet and what I experienced in court, if you keep picking at every little thing about radar and the cops ability and training to use it infallably, eventially you can get the technical fault you need to win.
So with Lidar, it's so accurate, and the training to the officers is so comprehensive, it's much harder to win against a ticket now than it may have been before.

That technical fault to get you out of a ticket ( win) is very unlikely these days. Once it proven that the radar system has been certified, calibrated, the officer has trained with the current system and laws for the state. There's not much left for a so called win, a compromise maybe. Over the last 5+ years or more law enforcement have stepped up the process to ensure that the speed detection device are more accurate then ever and even started to prove that the radar was working correctly before and after the encounter. Remember that over half the crap you read on the Internet is from the radar sector companies who wants you to buy there product. As I said on the zilla forum about this question, I could clock you in a second or under and if I'm in the right spot I could clock you before even I see you. I will post some video on this the next time I help out patrol.

I've beat the last two tickets I had the potential of getting hit with points....one of them jd9 remembers.

Screw court, just go directly to the prosecutor before and negotiate
