Choke knob, Idle adjustment screw

Hello everyone.
I have a 2001 RC51. My idle adjustment screw is fairly stiff when trying to turn it in either direction and my "choke" knob still sticks out a bit (about an 1/8") when fully pushed in. When I say "sticks out" I mean the end of the plastic knob does not sit flush with the bracket that holds the cable. I am having the bike mapped soon and I want the system to be working correctly. I searched the forums and I have consulted my service manual; I have not found any helpful info. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanx.

IIRC the manual says if the choke doesn't operate smoothly to remove the parts and clean them up so they do.

Yeah, Mike is right - Sounds to me like general lubrication of these parts needs doing. Not just a squirt with a penetrating lubricant, but taking apart, cleaning, lubricating and re-assembly. For cables I find a piece of micfofiber cloth, put it around the end of the outer sheath and using a small tube on the end of a spray nozzle - keep going till it drips out of the other end. Then I do the same from the opposite end.

You might want to do the same with your throttle cable assembly whilst you're at it.

....Should all be perfect thereafter.

I believe the idle screw and the fuel enrichment knob go to the same place. As you increase the idle, the knob moves out a little.

Cool. It's good to know that the enrichment knob and idle adjustment are tied together; I was not sure if they where and I was worried that something was binding; thank you. I plan on lubing all cables and linkages during the winter. Forums are the best thing since sliced bread.
