Has your PCIII ever failed?

I'm a little confused about the failure status of PCIII's.
I hope a few industry specialists, or hardcore track guys will comment.
I'm trying to determine an approximate failure rate of them.
I've never had any issues with my [very old] PCIIIr. Even though it's serial port, and the port leaks dust to the inside of the unit, it still works flawless as far as I can tell.

What I'd like to know:
a) what model PCIII do you have? ( PCIII, PCIIIr, or PCIIIusb)
b) has it failed, and you're sure about it?
c) was it securely mounted, or did it bounce around a little?

I posed the last question because a lot of us have bought one used and maybe you see signs that it took a little bit of a beating; like mine.

I just got off the phone with LDH. As I understood him to say, the PCIII and PCIIIr had an extremely low failure rate. This info is based on his sales and returns that were confirmed failures by DynoJet in the last decade or so. He said he could only remember 1 or 2 actual failures.
Then we talked about the PCIIIusb. He figures the failure rate for the PCIIIusb was approx .01 or 1/1000. So more failures than the preceding III's or IIIr's.

I should note, he qualified his info by actual factory confirmed failures. Where he sent the unit back to DynoJet and they confirmed the failure. There were some returns that turned out to be the installers mistake: that doesn't count as a failure.

LDH-not putting words in your mouth. Hope I quoted you right. Thanks for your input!

Oh, and the PCV is coming for our RC51's.

Thanks for the info. I don't fear buying a PC3 if I come across one at a good price. As I said in the other thread my failure was a PCII that was on the bike when I bought it. Wondering now if the PCV is worth waiting for?

That's good to know. I have the PCIIIusb model. And I just updated the map on mine on Saturday. They have the option to add maps for the PCV on the site. So it must be coming real soon.

I had a PCIIIr installed on the bike when I bought it, and it was bouncing around along with everything else. No problems with the unit operation.

Secured the unit and it was working perfectly up to the point I replaced it with a PCIIIUSB just for ease of mapping/remapping (still have the PCIIIr in a box).
The PCIIIr and PCIIIUSB were solidly secured to what was the tool kit storage area.

I did take the time to ensure all of the power commander and ECU connectors (actually ALL connectors) are coated with dielectric grease for water proofing/corrosion prevention.

This may be a contributing factor in the lack of electrical "gremlins" that others experience.

I had a PCII fail that's reason why I went USB...if they get the V out with auto tune I'm suspecting some USB models for sale in the near future, mine being one of them.

I thought my USB went belly up, called PC, they helped me reset it, but I still had problems with it. But with having rust stains on the wires going into the R/R, I suspected it was the problem.
Since I've done the R/R mod I haven't had any problems with it.

I too will be in the market for the V when/if it comes out.
