T1 Airbox Filter?

alright boys i got my t1 airbox and snorkel finally.

i have a sp2

now i see the Throttle bodies go on top of the t1 airbox and then velocity stacks. but there is no Air Filtering element????

dont tell me the only filtering here is the crappy grill in the front of the box. i really want the bike to run reliably and i dont wanna suck some crap in from my open snorkel and airbox?

what are you open airbox guys running for filtering?

I run the gauze that comes with the airbox, but the roads are very clean here, not much dust, etc. Mostly just insects in the summer.

I've heard of people modifying to use a K&N filter, but that may make your bike run a little richer if air flow is reduced at higher revs.
Let's ask Duckhunter, he will probably have done the research on this...

Or do a search and let us know what you find.

mine didnt come with a gauze it just like a metal grill? an insect could easily pass through. i need to come up with some type of filter deal before i install these. even if it is home made.

Measure the size of the grille and buy something like this (If there is a dimension longer than around 9cmcm, then this won't work as there's a hole in the middle of the circular filter, you you can cut two halves and join together ! http://www.ebay.com/itm/HKS-SMF-Air-...656156&vxp=mtr

Make sure it's genuine HKS, if you can - it'll probably last longer. Then cut it to size and fit with lolly-pop sticks. Not the cheapest way, but these are for high flow - if genuine so shouldn't constrict airflow significantly.

The K&N washable filter solution's worth researching though - will give better filtration than foam, especially against dust particles.

I would use some aftermarket foam filter with a paper filter between two foam sheets.

I really really hate the mickey mouse filters that are hand in hand with every aftermarket airbox I have seen.

My first design ( Lidded Version ) has a paper/foam filter I found available at a local Hvac repair company.
It will slide into a slot and be held in place with two rails and the lid.

End of these problems.
The filter I will be using has a model number and most likely widly available.
I will also be keeping a stock of these so they can be had from me as well. Direct slide in and fit.

Rc-devil...
Did you find a used T1 snorkel and air box setup ?
or is Brett still using the molds to produce parts before he sent ?
Little curious.

Thanks for the reply guys

I bought them used for a deal I couldn't pass up. (Dont worry duckie i still want your carbon drugs too) The airbox I've had for a few years and I just recently found a mk2 snorkel used. Heck I couldn't even get Brett to answer an email this year so I doubt he is still making them.

There is just like a metal grill I'm the airbox and that just isn't gonna cut it. Ill be prepping all these parts before they go on and I'm thinking new gaskets and air filtering method.

Ok well that is a relief ! I thought I had competition from the guy selling me my own molds HA !!!

LOL, anyways... glad to hear your still interested RC-Devil.
I have a lot of interest building in the Full Carbon Lidded Airbox.
That and my Mori snorkel are my focus until the molds arrive - Then I have people to send T1 MK2 snorkels too, ASAP.

lol that would be pretty crazy if brett still had them but all communication since november 2012 has been silent on his end. im assuming hes no longer making them. BUT, the hunt for these bits was half the fun.

you still havent got all the molds yet? whats the time frame looking like so i can prepare my wallet haha

Here are Uni-Filter sheets in various porosities.
http://www.unifilter.com/online-catalog/

I was going to use these over the gauze filters shipped with my T1 airbox.
I felt the slight loss of possible airflow was worth the increased filtration.
