Dying RC

I was riding my RC51 when out of the blue it died. I tried to restart all I got was white smoke and a heavy smell of gas. I turned the ignition off let her sit for a while. Turned the ignition back on and she started like nothing had happened. It's done it a couple of other times but I would turn off the ignition and she would start back up. The bike has a power commander. This might be a stupid question but after a while do I need to reload a new map into the power commander? I was Just checking to see if anyone else has gone through the same problem, and sometimes the bike runs fine with no problems. I've owed the bike since 2005 it's an 03. Last resort will be the dealership. I appreciate anyone's help. Thanks Vic.
