soft rev bypass

hi guys.
something on my mind.
my buddy has bypassed his soft rev and i read it can gain around 5hp.
thats always good news;-)
why is there a soft rev limiter on the rc51?
if you remove this wil it damage anything?
its a really simple bypass to do so think i will do it.
but i would like to know will it damage anything?
of course moding things are at own risk ect ect but would like to hear your thoughts.

From memory i think the US bikes hit the limiter at 9500 and the rest of us get 10000 rpm
If you want to go above that you need HRC or aftermarket ecu
