Display does'nt show anything, lights up when braking

Hi Guys,

So i swapped my aftermarket clipons for a set of OEM ones.
After i finished the job i left the bike sit for a week or so. So last Saturday i wanted to go for a ride and the bike fired up right a way. But the only problem was that the display didn't show anything. No miles, no revs, no speed. The turn signal light does work.
The strange thing is that i didn't do anything with cabling. The only cable i disconnected where the turn signal cables that stayed on the upper faring and i removed the light switch and opened it up to clean the inside because the turn signals didn't work right away when moving the turn signal switch.
I made a movie clip to show the problem.

My bike is a 2000 euro rc51 Honda VTR SP1

The video is on youtube but i am not allowed to put the link in this message.. Can i PM someone so he can put the YT link in this thread?

did you check the harness on both ends? That is unplug it from the speedo, then do the same at the other end of the sub harness.
Also did you check the fuses?
Do you have stock blinkers?
You can post the name of the video. or even most of the link just put a space in it somewhere.

Did you touch any of the ground connections, seen it on cars when there's a bad ground strange things happen with the lights like indicators light up when brake pedal pressed and so on.

Wow. That looks like a major problem.

I didn't even hear the fuel pump kick in?

The fuel pump does work, the bike did start and it rode perfect accept i couldn't see how fast i was going or when i needed fuel or revs etc.

I torn every cable apart again to check for oxidation, checked the ground connections and checked the inside of my light switch again. Put it back together and miraculously it worked again!!

try just for the hell of it disconnect the lights you worked on at the harness then disconnect both battery leads.
hookup only the battery leads then start bike with lights still unhooked

There is some contact cleaner. Try to use it. Check the isolation of the cables.
