Cleaning the Mag clutch cover

Morning/evening (depending on where you are) ?

Any ideas on cleaning stains off the mag clutch cover? Looks like someone's tried before with something and it's stained.. Thoughts?

Thanks

Jay

whats on it?? just the stains left by the other cleaner??

Take it to an engine rebuild shop and ask them to run it through the bath

You have to be very careful with it though.
The coating will come off repetitively easily.
Simple green and a good plastic bristle brush works well.

Screw it, take that thing off and have it powdercoated any color you want.

or hit it with 1500 grit sandpaper and then polish it

or then hit it with the transparent clearcoat

or replace it with a billet model

i'm fairly certain that it's just paint. so treat it like paint.

the fact that it's magnesium underneath doesn't really matter.

Until you remove the paint and the exposed magnesium alloy starts to corrode immediately

yes of course, but the OP isn't asking about removing the paint is he?

seems a lot of folks think that the colour of the cases is a function of the material.

could be, but i'm pretty sure whatever is on there comes off pretty easy, especially around the bolts.
