Thorough clutch fluid flush?

Hey fellas,
It has been a long time since I have posted or even been on here but I need some advice: What would you guys recommend to thoroughly clean out the clutch's hydraulic system. I got a bunch of dirt shoved into the reservoir the other day and need to get that problem addressed.

I would push fresh brake fluid into the slave cylinder bleed screw which would go up to the master cylinder and then clean out the fluid and muck as it accumulates in the master cylinder fluid reservoir until only clean fluid is seen in the reservoir. I hope that makes sense to you. Good luck.

Backflushing sounds like a good idea. Do you think the dirt was pumped into the little ports of the master? How'd that happen anyway?

A big syringe I would think could push it. Not sure how I would get the crap out of the reservoir with fluid still covering the hole and keep air from coming back in. Curious to see how that works.

I just do brake bleeding and clutches the same, vacuum (hand pump) from caliper or slave cylinder while ensuring there's enough fluid in the reservoir. If my lever still comes back softer than it should (subjective assessment for sure), I ty-wrap the lever as close to the bar as wants to go and leave it over night. It's usually solid after that. If it comes back to the bar before you want to use the ty-wrap, you need to re-bleed them until it doesn't. Has worked repeated with bleeding systems with ABS as well.

There's probably better ways but this has proven fast and reliable for me. Good luck.

I would drain the fluid and remove the slave, reason being is because there's usually some grit in the slave as well as the reservoir. So I would remove the slave, disassemble it, clean and inspected. I would also remove the reservoir, cleaning and inspecting it. Take a shop towel and wipe the mounting surface on the master cyclinder, also inspect o-ring. Reassemble, flush with fresh fluid and bleed the system. Also remember you will need a new slave gasket $13 from Honda.

Hey, Jon! I have been alright. A bit occupied though. How I got dirt in there, long story short, is I fell at the track. As the bike was sliding in the grass the cap came off and dirt got shoved in. Not much damage other than a bit of a broken left fairing and the clutch master thing. Thanks for all the advice fellas. I will hopefully get a chance this week to give something a try.

Clutch has been flushed and everything replaced. I want to thank you guys for the great advice. I ended up using a marinating syringe to back flush. The plastic cap was $23 at the dealership so I ordered a billet aluminum cap for ten dollars less. This is the extent of the damage and the dirt filled clutch reservoir. The main problem I am having now is finding a engine hanger bolt to replace the frame sliders. Have been searching all over but I don't think I will find one in time to have them on for the next track day, June 11th. Thanks again, fellas!
