Indicators Mystery..

I have almost finished building my SP1 from a barn find bike.

The indicators didn't work and I asked the garage to sort them before carrying out MOT. Picked bike up, battery was dead but they said all was sorted with a brand new MOT.

Got the bike home and fitted a new battery, no indicators, same as before! :-(

Phoned garage and they just said "well they were working before" - so I have wasted a lot of money and six weeks of my time for nothing.

Anyhow, I need to get sorted, I have very limited time but had a play this bank holiday. Checked wiring which all seems intact. The indicators all light up when powered from the switch connector so points to a problem with the switch itself.

Apparently they had to get a specialist to diagnose and repair the switch, which is where the bulk of my money went, and he seems to have done ... nothing!!

I was looking a trying the switch from my SP2 but its different so I doubt would be a fair comparison.

If I flick the turn switch the relay clicks but nothing happens re lighting up or flashing etc. Headlights work, main beam and high beam, tail light works, front brake works - rear brake doesn't though. Checked all the earths.

Bit lost now - not sure what to do next?....

Okay, so the front ones should be lit up. they are running lights also.
Just to verify
- When you push the blinker(indicator) switch the dash does or does not blink?
If the dash light is blinking we know it is probably not the switch.
-Are the rear indicator lights always on? They should not be.
- Do you have any contact cleaner?

Front ones don't light up - I have no lights as running lights, I have running lights on the switch (each corner of the headlights), then main beam then high beam.

Dash doesn't blink when you hit the switch, but it does light up if I power the blue and orange lead out of the switch leading to the rear lights.

Rear Indicator lights are not on.

Will try spraying contact cleaner in the switch and see if that helps :-)

Tried contact spray, nothing changed, apart from the passing switch worked for a split second then stopped again! :-(

If the switched worked for a second then that may be it. You could take it apart and really clean it. also check the contacts on the end of the switch harness. It should be under the left side of the front fairing.
Also are all the bulbs good for sure. You can also jump some of the wires in the plug to test them.

Yeah jumped all the wires and all bulbs are present and correct.

The bike is still stripped with just the tank and nose on so everything is nice and easy access - I want to get this sorted before I rebuild it.

Really miffed that I have paid good money, lost six weeks and still have to fix it myself! :-(

Judging by the MOT comment, I'm guessing you are in the UK or Northern Ireland. Not sure if the UK version has running lights.
My insight from playing with indicators is that unless the engine is running, you may not get the flash you expect on the lights themselves or the gauge, even with a new, completely full battery.
Just my pennies worth though.

Yeah - I'm near Portsmouth, UK.

Tried it with the engine running as well and still no joy - think i'll strip the switch myself and take a look inside.

The only thing I can't work out is if the switch is not working then why does the relay click? The relay doesn't click back until I turn the key off again. But if the relay clicks then in theory the lights should light up and stay lit up?

No expert but sounds like a 12v problem. If it engages the relay then it's got enough to around the system. Bad memories of my old 6v VW Beetle! Hahaha

Is it the flasher relay you hear clicking? if so is it only coming on and not clicking on an off?
