Gilles rearset question

If anyone is running a set of Gilles rearsets can you please explain to me how the return spring is mounted brake side. I feel like a banana head but I just can't make sense of it. Thanks, a pic of the backside would be cool but an explanation would probably suffice.

I think it just works with the return spring in the MC. It's enough to return the pedal apparently.

It feels like its fine that way. I bought a set second hand and the previous owner said he didn't remember using a return spring but when I look em up online the Gilles diagram says they come with one as part if the package new. So I ordered one, the damn thing is here and doesn't appear to have a place to go lol.
