Air filtration

Has anybody run a Durbahn style air box with sock type filters over the trumpets?

the reason i ask is that the usual type of filter used with these air boxes is either not such a good filter or too restrictive because of its size

wondered if sock types would provide a winning combination

I found that filters directly over intake trumpets on a car's race engine with individual throttle bodies (or even fine stainless mesh after the trumpet and before the throttle) caused a noticeable loss of power.

I use air filter foam sprayed with K&N oil on my SP's T1 airbox. I haven't noticed any significant loss of power, but the best way to tell what effect socks may have is to suck it and see on a dyno, perhaps?

i wouldn't be keen on inviting any sort of debris into the airbox at all. once it's in there it has nowhere to go. best to filter before it gets there

a very coarse filter in the intake would take care of small birds etc.
