Cush Drive play

I have noticed what looks like ground up grey rubber on the inside of my Marchesini wheels after riding and now I am able to rotate the wheel close to an inch either direction with the sprocket and chain not moving at all. Did some searching around the internet and it looks like the cush rubbers in these wheels fail all the time?? Has anyone had this problem? I probably rode 200 hard miles only so far on these wheels.

Help!

Bought the wheels used from a member on this forum......no idea what the black shavings are, they feel like rubber also. New cush rubber is black, maybe the black shaving are from the old rubber???

That's the old style cush dampers. I think they were some nylon material.
Mine degraded into a gooey wax-like consistency. Almost like paraffin.
Had to scrape them out of the wheel with a spatula, chunks at a time. Nasty.

I ordered some replacements, and the new ones are now a black polyurethane-type material. Way better.

Part number 4181-D-19, $79.95 (set of 5) + S&H.
