Spam delete suggestion

I don't know how possible this is ... When a member clicks on a thread that turns out to be spam, he could click a button, maybe call the button Delete 1 ... and when a 2nd member sees that same spam thread, he could click Delete 2, and that 2nd delete would actually delete the thread.

If 2 is too few, it could be set to whatever minimum number of members you think you trust to be able to join up to quickly delete spam threads.

Maybe it should be 4 ... because otherwise Duckhunter, nobody and Madbuyer will prob just conspire and delete all my threads!

Oh ... maybe after 24 hours these Delete # buttons go away. If we haven't caught it after 24 hours, it would need to be removed by an Admin.

The problem is that additional procedures are usually done to spam threads. On my forums, the procedure goes something like this: Ban Username, Ban IP address, delete thread(s). Deleting the thread alone makes it easier to repeat spam, although they seem willing to wade through several levels of deterrence to get through.

I think that we have been able to get to these pretty timely. We've had several steps implemented to address the problem, obviously it's not working. We'll keep at it......

I know you're not....appreciate any suggestion! Not sure why we seem to be such a target.

I wasn't complaining either but it does get to be an eyesore at time.....I was whoring up my post count.

But really, I see those verification tools on websites that seem to work...you know the ones with the letters even a normal human would have a hard time reading...

-Invite only? Bit too extreme.
-Minimum time limit between registering and posting
-Moderator approval of account prior to access

CAPTCHAs are easily bypassed by bots and from what i understand some people make easy money solving them.

Problem I see with the deletion flag idea is bob smith will register 5x with different usernames so they can delete a thread.

We're supposed to have something in effect that doesn't allow a first time poster the ability to link to anything....that seems to be working flawless.

In my experience, spammers will wade through more stuff than a motivated prospective member. By the time you exclude the spammers, you have also excluded the vast majority of the new members too. Simply not worth it.
