SubSailor The Dzus fastener should mate with the matching spring and easily rotate 1/4 turn and snap into place.
You shouldn't have to (nor should you) force the fastener into place and to rotate.
That can damage the slotted end tip.
I've seen plenty with one end bent or broken off.

Iceman_JD SubSailor you beat me to it. Here is my post

Something doesn't sound right, It is similar to a Dzus fastener, 1/4 turn spring lock in and your done. Wondering if it has been replaced with something different. Your talking about the upper one right and not the two lower ones which are smaller and threaded. I'll look up the part # for you or email the parts fiches if you'll like

If it is threaded the fairing stay might need to be replaced too. Just looked it up Part # is 90641-MCF-000 Stud, 9X15 The retainer plastic # is 64509-MK4-000 that holds the stud in place so it won't pop out of the fairing when not screwed into fairing stay. The stay # is 64518-MCF-D30 left side right side is #64517-MCF-D30

SubSailor You mean the Dzus quick-release fasteners that secure each lower cowl?
They have a clear plastic disk that snaps over the end that retains them to the cowl.
If they've been removed a few times, they will snap and break.
Just order a couple and replace.

If done correctly, the Dzus fasteners use spring tension to hold the shaft end in place despite vibration. And they are far quicker to release.
And they don't strip like a threaded fastener, which will also need lock-tite or safety wire to keep from being lost due to vibration.

If your Dzus fasteners won't hold, I'd take a look at the tip to see of the slots are bent or damaged. And also look at the opposite wire end on the frame.
When you secure a Dzus fastener, you should feel it when it snaps over the wire retainer.

Losing Fairing Clips

I keep losing the lower fairing clips on both sides. The big-headed ones that take a flat screwdriver. Why are they clips and not bolts? I've tried lock-tite. Nope. Local dealer suggests clear tapeing them, but I don't want that. Any thoughts? Superglue yeah!
