Hello all, my first post of hopefully many

I am looking at getting an RC51, there are only 3 for sale in my area and one of them seems like a pretty good deal, at least I think so when comparing to the others for sale.

Here it is:
2000, 25K Miles, $3800
New Rear Tire
Custom Xenon projector headlights
Corbin Seat
Heated grips
Speedohealer
Helibars
New front brake pads last season
New chain and sprocket last season
New Yuasa gel battery last season
Valve clearance checked in 2009

The Bad:
The fuel light doesn't work.
The bike has been down (Clean Title) and has aftermarket ABS fairings

The other two for sale in my area:
03', 19k Mi, $4500 (Typical Silver, Red theme)
04', 33k mi, $6500 (Silv/Red theme, many mods)

Good deal or should I keep looking/wait for other deals.

I'd be going to look at the 03 before making any decisions. I have an SP1, but if I had a choice, I'd go for an SP2.

That is a clean looking '00. I think it all depends on what your reasons for wanting an RC are. If you are into its racing pedigree and history then I would say the '00. If you like the originality of it then go with the '03. There really is no wrong choice in my opinion.

My sentiments exactly!

+1 on the 2003
+2

SP2's (2002-2006)are refined a little more. Just a wee bit better of a bike compared to a SP1. (2000 & 2001)
The 03 has it's own unique wing graphic, which is kinda cool. No diff in value, but it's unique to any other of the 5 years of RC51.
That sounds to high on the 04, Nicky's are exclusive to 04, but still, no real diff in value. Even with some of the best mods, 6500 is pretty high, unless your talking about Ohlins suspension front and back. AND a full exhaust, like Sato, or Akrapovic. If yes on exhaust, then it should have a PowerCommander and a dyno sheet with the custom tune for that bike. If only slip-ons, then downloaded map is ok.
One last thing, a really good tip from our Madbuyer: Look carefully at the oil sight glass. the oil should look sanitary, and the window should be clear. Not cloudy. neglected oil changes will get just a little caustic and etch the window from the inside. See what the radiator overflow bottle looks like too. Indicates maintenence, or lack of it...
Hope that helps.

Edit: I spotted those chinese knock-off plastics on the 2000 right away. That actually decreases the value. You can't do any repairs or painting on those things, and they are prone to cracking at the mounting holes, melting from exhaust heat, etc. I don't want to start a debate about OEM vs, Aftermarket plastics. This is just my experience and many on this forum will agree. Some will not.

The 2003 seems to be the only real choice you have.. The SP1 is a fine deal and still a SUPERBIKE, And the 2004- To all my cross-referencing of parts. In 2004 -Honda didn't offer the SP2 in silver or black , until 2005.. Now if the serial number is low on the 2004 -then it could be a 2005 model. WELL THEN ! ! ! I would have to consider the 2004...(early 2005)
Now other than that being a EARLY 2005 model... Honda only released the N.hayden edition, and the regular red paint scheme (exact to the 2003) only released in 2004...
No black scheme in 2004...
I would check -those serial numbers... If it were a low miles,NON-wrecked 2005- I would attempt to get that bike...

I think you're confused a little allchaos. The Silver and black is the 2000, sporting AM fairings not true to the OEM color scheme.
I don't follow you about the 2004 having a low Production# in the VIN. If it did, that would mean it's early 2004 -- not 2005.
I think maybe that silver/black 2000 threw a monkeywrench in our brain!

The Sp1 is over priced by about 500 bucks or so. Personally I would stay away from it but if your looking for a deal I wouldnt pay over 3K. The 03 sounds like the best bet as the 04 is way overpriced too.

THANK YOU! For the the replies!

I will be definently looking further into the sp2 now, before I was thinking more on price point, but I see the SP2 will be a much better deal...

Here is the details on the 03':
powercommander, 15/41 gears, speedohealer, Sato racing pipes

Hopefully it is still for sale, it has been posted for over a month now (which can be a barganing point if still available)

If the sp2 is not availiable I will try to talk down the sp1 owner to 3k as bgup suggested.

Thanks again!

3800 to 4000 would be a great score on the '03. You'll love that sato exhaust!!!
And that's some very good gearing 15/41! Nice clean quick take-offs, and very traffic friendly gearing too.

I called him up and it is still available! Needs tires and hasn't gotten the valves checked yet (no issues, just to go over b/c of milage) So I'll probably check it out this weekend and try to talk him down under 4k.

Riders Discount can get you a great deal on a pair of Q2's if you like those tire's. about225 - 250 for the set I think. They really do have the best prices, I've shopped them on stuff, and they never charge me tax or shipping.

With only 19K miles, that bike is practiclly new. These RC's easily get 50-75K when properly maintained.

Good luck!
