Call me nostalgic, but even that 2008 (as sexy as it is) is still no RC51. Ya just can't touch it IMHO.

Anyone else here ridden both an RC51 and a 1000rr? The new 2008 1000RR looks sweet, but I think I'd miss my SP2 and its v-twin engine.

My Parts gut sold his '05 RC 51, and bought an '08 1000 RR, he still misses the RC 51, go figure! My 51 is a keeper, other bikes may come, but like my CBX, and Hawk GT, the RC 51 stays!!!!
BTW, call me old school, BUT I HATE the JAPANIMATION, Sailor Moon, styling of the '08 1000 RR. But what the hell do I know, I'm a 52 year old High School teacher, with an '04 Corvette, '04 hopped up Mustang GT, CBR 929, RC 51, CBX,
Hawk GT, XL 600R, DR 200 E.

BTW, I test-rode an 08 1000RR at a dealership and it was crazy-fast and very light/nimble for a liter bike. Honda did their homework on the RR. I agree on the esthetics, though. I'm sure form follows function in that the wind tunnel and track had a lot to do with the look.
But it just doesn't have the low end grunt the RC has. I'm sure if I were a better puck-dragger, I could have a ball keeping the RR up near the rev-limiter all day long, but I love how the 51 pulls hard from 5k to the limiter.
Kelly is all but useless for finding out real prices that you could actually sell your bike for.
Look on closed auctions on ebay or on Craig's List.
There is an '04 CBR1000RR mint condition with 12,000 miles on my local CL for $4,700. That's probably a good starting point for yours.

I have ridden a '09 CBR1000RR and a GSXR-1000 K8 in the same day.
I preferred the Suzuki which had better mid-range and riding position.
Now I'm no fan of I-4's, even though I own two of them ('05 'Busa and '08 FZ1).
I personally prefer the engine characteristics of a twin over an I-4.
If Honda made a 2010 or 2010 equivalent of the RC51, I'd buy it over an I-4 any day.
Unfortunately I can't afford a Ducati, nor would I put with their maintenance intervals.
About the only v-twin I'd really love would be a KTM RC8. And they're out of my reach as well.
So I'll stick with my old reliable RC51. It's plenty fast enough for me and I love the sound far better.

I will be honest, the only bike I would pick over the RC51 for all around satisfaction is my Busa... the comfort makes it more the bike for me. modidy........we meet again. RC51 was the only sportbike i would even get anymore, im sick of RR's right now
I have an 07 CBR1KRR and an 04 RC51! Night and day difference in the machines! Both are fun as hell to ride, and both are different animals to ride! I cant go from the RC to the CBR and back and not ride them differently! After I ride the CBR, I always bounce the RC off the hard limiter! LOL! The CBR just pulls and pulls to redline! The RC gets to the limiter way to fast and I'm always wanting more out of it! LOL
I prefer twin power, but now we're starting to see V4's that are producing tons of power and have the properties of a twin. I rode an S1000RR BMW and it was amazingly powerful and very easy to handle.
Apples to oranges comparison. I've ridden and owned single cylinder dirtbikes, supermotos, twin cylinders and four cylinder rockets and really prefer the singles and twins. Just because they are sportbikes with the same displacement (close) doesn't make them evenly matched.
The 2008 is also 2 MY old at this point... the sportbike market seems to reinvent itself every 6 mos! LOL.

I own a 2000 RC51 with some work done to it.
I recently purchased an 08 CBR1000RR and have done a couple things to it.
I love my RC, but I have only ridden it once since I got the RR. The RC is now up for sale.
They are completely different bikes. The CBR is more comfortable to me and is also faster, so it's a no brainer for my riding style. However, I see more new CBR's on the street than I see RC51's.
The CBR handles like a 600 and will pull the wheel up in 3rd gear without the clutch. It's fine for cruising, gets better gas mileage, replacement parts are easier to find and cheaper, aftermarket parts are everywhere and easy to find.
If I had no need for more space and nothing better to do with the money I would keep the RC. But the only things I miss about the RC is the music of the engine/pipes and being able to pull the front wheel up at 10mph with the throttle only.
God bless the RC51. At least I stayed with Honda.

i was looking a 1000rr after i sold my 929rr...i love my RC51 but i hit redline too quick due to owning I4's all the time before. i do not how ever miss the 929rr rear wheel spin, but i do miss 1-5th 1 mile + wheelies...RC is more fun to just ride lol.
