That is correct gentelmen... The title is right. Everyone here wants to lose wieght.. I was pondering on ways to do it to our 1 litre duc eater, and i thought... DUH!! I am a metal manipulating tig welding fabricating mad man by trade... (i even thought of an idea to make our rear pegs extend lower than the exhaust and still fold up/in, to be out of the way.. That will be another thread for another time) But i want to make the RC an aluminum gas tank. I figured that i would throw the idea out here and get some input from others like myself..

╙☺╜ would anyone buy these babies¿
╙☺╜ does anyone have an extra tank that is slightly damaged that i could buy¿ (and cut up for a template)
╙☻╜ (drum roll) what prices would people be willing to pay for such a item¿ (and understand when i make it, its going to be an exact replica of the stock)

All input is welcome and if anyone knows where we can already purchase this GREAT IDEA from, shoot me a link..

It's a great idea, but for most people the ROI is probably going to be less than they would get with other mods. Most of the common mods have been done for 5 or 8 years now and have worked their way through the system of owners over time (hacking the subframe, battery relo, PC, slipons, full exhaust, throttle body swaps, ECU remapping, different wiring harnesses, CF parts, different wheels, 'glass bodywork the list goes on and on).
The tank would probably have to be cheap, strong, prepainted and an exact fit for most ppl to want to replace them. And the gains would probably be nominal.
But with all that said, I am always interested in projects and custom parts for the bikes... will be curious to see the progression.
Ride safe!

Im looking to make it as inexpensive as possible.. I understand that the biggest majority of us on here are working class people with GREAT TASTE when it comes to bikes.. I have surfed the web for a few hours and see tanks for 3k... i almost $hi┬ when i seen that... Im honestly wanting to do this to improve this RC community. Not make a living selling these babies.. I love these bikes and on a personal note, a guy i ride with all the time has an 05 kawasaki ZX10.. and that things fast, im just sick of him always talking $hi┬ about the RC.. so im into making this beast light and fast.. its turned into a personal vendetta..

I decided to get out of the arms race a long time ago.
Your buddy's got an R1 and he's probably talking smack about the RC.
The some dude on a BMW S1000RR blows his doors off and his penis starts shrinking, so he's got to buy something faster than the Beemer and so it goes.
If you've got the cash, there's always bigger, faster, better.

I decided to buy a bike I could just simply enjoy and tinker with within some limits of a budget.
My RC51 is plenty fast for me and whether is does 150, 160, or 180, is irrelevant. I just have fun and dig the sound.

Heck if I had the monetary resources, I'd build a bike similar to the Britten.
That bike was so far ahead of it's time. I'd love to see something like it with a V-4.

tell me about it! My brother has a 05 zx10 and damn that things got some juice! I thought somthing was wrong with mine after our first ride but was quickly reminded that the thing has like 175bhp. What are you gonna do with that? Short of finding one of collin edwards WSB engines lying around.... on a personal note, my dumbass thought our tanks where aluminium!

Nope, just good old sheet metal.
I picked up a used ETI carbon-kevlar tank and when I picked the box up I thought I was ripped off. It felt like...nothing.
So I opened the box and, yep, there was a tank in there.
I weighed it and it's only 5 lbs without fuel pump or cap.
I was surprised it weighed that much. It felt even lighter.
It's one of the many tasks on my to-do list this year.
