Well not really, but that is what the dealer said would happen if I installed a smaller, lighter battery. The battery in question is a ytz7s as opposed to the larger heaver 12s'. I have heard of a number of RC riders doing the smaller batt mod to save weight, but have not seen a lot of feedback on how it starts the motor or issues with battery overheating/overcharging. Has anyone had or heard of one of these batteries blow up??

The weight savings would be so minimal I don't think it's worth the trouble.. Eat one less brownie after dinner and you'll save the same amount of weight.;)

Your dealer is lying or he's just stupid. If it's a 12v battery it will not blow up. The bike will produce enough amprege to bring whatever 12 volt battery is on the system up to about 13.5-14.2 volts and then the overage is shunted to ground.
