My bike died mid turn and since hasn't started.. initially it was showing a code 19 (ignition pulse generator related), I have since replaced that part and the code is now gone, but the bike still won't start. It's not getting spark. Kill switch, tilt sensor, kickstand switch, etc have all been checked. Mechanically I'm a total novice so I have a tech friend looking at it, but he's having some problems determining the problem. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

is it cranking over or does the power come on but engine won't crank?

Check your ignition coils.

How likely is it that both coils would go bad at once? Bike turns over, just no spark from the plug wires.

not very likely but i had mine go out and had similair issues.
Check the plugs.
Check all your wiring connections make sure everything is where it should be and not corroded or shorting out.
Check your fuses too.

Plugs aren't getting any spark at all, so it's not them. Fuses are good, checked the connections as well.

ok well if your not getting any spark i'll list what it could be. Check each item....and run tests for each to make sure its functioning.

Bad/fouled spark plugs
loose ignition system wires
shorted spark plug wire
ignition pulse generator (but you said you just replaced that)
ignition coil
bad engine stop switch or ignition switch
bad converter unit
bad ecu

Did you by chance try to jump the bike? sometimes this can burn out ignition switch or even the ECU.

when you got a power commander ...unplug it ..and try it again ...my bike stalled 2 weeks ago ..and after checking out everything ...someone from the board told me to unplug my PC ..and the bike started right up.

Yep, PCIIIs are notorious for causing electrical issues. usually a bad connection. That would be the first place i'd check if you have one.

I do have a PCIIIUSB, I tried bypassing when I still had the code 19 (didn't start) but reconnected it before my guy got the bike. I'll tell him to try that, if he hasn't already. Thanks for all of the suggestions.. this is actually my first RC and it died on the first real ride I took it on.

Edit: Not the PC, he disconnected that right away.

hmm....not exactly sure how to test the unit. the more i think about it, the more i think its the Converter unit as well. if you have the wiring diagram i would trace everything from the converter box to the ignition coils and ECU and make sure all the grounds are good and nothing is shorted....besides that i think i'd probably just go grab a new one. I've herd a few stories of guys replacing these.

ok this happened to me also.. take ur back seat off and all ur wires that are there look for the ones that have a relay on them I believe there is only 2 of them and wiggle them around and try to start the bike.. What happen to mine is one of the wires going into the relay was broke in half it would make connection but as soon as i started hitting bumps it would lose connection again so i had to fix it bike runs fine now..
